The mechanism increments a driven shaft 10 in small arcuate incremental motions from a constantly rotating drive shaft 12 and fixes shaft 10 from rotation between increments.
Drive shaft 12 has a hub 14 fixed thereon, and a pin 16 is fixed with respect to shaft 12. A driven disc 18 is fixed on shaft 10 and is provided with slots 20 in its periphery for receiving pin 16. Disc 18 is provided with a cylindrical flange 22 having slots 24 therein, and hub 14 is provided with a flange 26 that passes through slots 24. Pin 16 enters a slot 20, as shaft 12 rotates, for incrementing disc 18 and shaft 10; and flange 26, in passing through one of the slots 24 and in entering and passing through a second one of the slots 24 during a single revolution of shaft 12, holds driven shaft 10 from movement as pin 16 moves from one of the slots 20 into another of the slots 20. A detent roller 28 on the end of a leaf spring 30 engages in the outer ends of slots 20 for yieldably holding disc 18 in its incremented positions. Flange 22 is integrally formed with disc 18 for economical manufacture.
