Abstract

Panel assembly 10 includes a frame 11, a film negative 12 and a color panel 14 on which are adhered strippable tape portions 15. Film negative 12 and color panel 14 are superimposed and inserted into frame slots 17. The film negative 12 may be in the form shown, wherein an opaque surface 18 has a series of windows 19 with positive character legends 20 therein, or may be a solid opaque coating on the transparent substrate material with the nomenclature characters transparent.

Selectively Presenting Legends on Nomenclature Panel

Panel assembly 10 includes a frame 11, a film negative 12 and a color panel 14 on which are adhered strippable tape portions 15. Film negative 12 and color panel 14 are superimposed and inserted into frame slots 17. The film negative 12 may be in the form shown, wherein an opaque surface 18 has a series of windows 19 with positive character legends 20 therein, or may be a solid opaque coating on the transparent substrate material with the nomenclature characters transparent.

To provide for displaying of selected legends 20, all possible legends that might be used with the specific nomenclature panel are placed thereon and all optional legends are rendered nondisplayable by strippable tape 15 on translucent color panel 14, if back lighted, or an opaque color panel if non-back lighted. The strippable tape 15 has the same color and surface finish as the opaque coating on negative 12, to make such nomenclature substantially unobservable. When it is desired to use additional legends, the tape 15 is stripped from the appropriate areas of color panel 14 to facilitate field change and also reduce the part numbers required for panels used for varying feature combinations.
