Abstract

The microviscosometer 10 includes a 10mm diameter tube 11, which is joined to a capillary tube 12 by a standard ground glass joint 13. Connection is effected by connecting upper hooks 14 to lower hooks IS using rubber bands or light springs. Two marks 16 and 17 are etched on capillary tube 12 about 10 centimeters apart, the lower mark being at least five centimeters above the junction with tube 11. Stop cock 19 at the upper end of capillary tube 12 holds the column of oil while being stabilized to the bath temperature. Stabilization is accomplished by submerging the microviscometer to a depth 20 in a bath at an exact temperature. After calibration oils with viscosities from 20 to 200 centistokes may be measured using a sample as small as 0.15Ml (3 drops).
