Self Clocking Alphameric Type Family

This type family is designed for easier readability for both human and machine modes.

Readily recognizable character configuration is interrupted by a single horizontal strip of bar coding in each case. The family on the left is encoded in the basic retrospective bar coding, while the one on the right is encoded in the transition significant version of that coding.

For machine reading, a document containing the characters of this type family is passed under a vertical array of photosensitive devices. The conventionally printed segments of each character are used to select the one photosensitive device overlying the coding strip segments in that character. Known logic circuitry is used for interpreting the bar coding.
