A blend of a halogenated vinyl compound such as vinylidene chloride copolymer with TEFLON* 30 TFE polymer produces a new material that has the appearance and low-surface friction of (100%) TEFLON.

Polymer and copolymer blends of the following composition have been tested and exhibit the corresponding glass transition temperatures (TG):

Other equivalent copolymers that can be substituted for vinylidene chloride as a cross-linking agent or polymer with TEFLON* are vinylidene fluoride and other galogenated vinyl compounds, e.g.,

Major Advantages Are:

1) Cross-linking will occur at room temperature.

2) Films can be produced by casting the polymers from water dispersion of negatively charged resin particles.

3) Coatings can be applied to metallic parts by anodically reducing the charged particles in an electrolytic cell.

4) The glass transition temperature (Tg) can be varied, depending upon the composition of polymer and copolymer or ratio of fluorine to chlorine.
