Duplex Copier Incorporating Sorter Collator

A duplex copier incorporating a sorter-collator has feed paths which insure that sheets having printed matter on one side are deposited in collator bins with the printed matter facing down, and sheets having copy on both sides are deposited with the last side copied facing up.

Sheets are fed from hopper 11 to copy drum 13, whereupon the topmost surface of the sheet receives printing. When it is desirous to print on one side of the sheet, the sheet advances from copy drum 13, over diverter 15, under diverter 17, and over transport 19 to be deposited, printed side face down, in a selected collecting bin 21. If printing is desired on both sides of the copy sheet, the sheet advances from copy drum 13, under diverter 15, and over transport 23 to be deposited in hopper 25 with the printed side face down. Once the requisite number of sheets have been copied, the sheets are fed from bin 25 to copy drum 13 to receive printing on the second side. Thereafter, the sheets pass over diverter 15 and diverter 17 and transport 27 to be deposited in a selected bin 21, with the last side copied face up.
