Abstract

A paper pack 10 is maintained on a paper tray 12 at an angle slightly inclined away from the vertical. Paper tray 12 is movable on crank arms 14 which, in pivoting around their pivot points 16, move paper tray 12 up and to the right. The paper pack is forced by the action of crank arms 14 up against an upstop 18 and a paper restrainer 20. Crank arms 14 are controlled by lift solenoid 22 which acts through a linkage to index ratchet 24. Spring 26 is connected to one crank arm 14 to bias the crank arms in a clockwise direction. tray solenoid 22 then acts through ratchet 24 to relax the stack of paper 10 in paper tray 12 away from upstop 18. Picker lift solenoid 27 is connected to picker wheel 28. Picker wheel 28 is retained in a raised position by picker lift solenoid 27 when no feeding is being accomplished.

Transport mechanism 36 transports the paper fed from stack 10 into the copier machine. Paper sensing switch 34 is activated by the presence of paper, to cause picker solenoid 27 to disengage picker wheel 28 from the top of paper pack 10.

The sequence of operation is that on the signal to feed a sheet of paper, tray solenoid 22 operates ratchet 24 to relax tray crank arm 14 and allow the paper pack 10 to move away from upstop 18. This allows a sheet of paper to be fed. At the same time...
