Abstract

A control unit SG, together with a dictating unit DG is connected, like any other telephone set, to the subscriber line A of a branch exchange, Fig. 1. After having established a connection to the dictating unit DG by dialing the number of the extension to which the control unit SG is connected, a dictating party can control the dictating unit DG by dialing post-dial digits.

The PABX's are transparent for dialing pulses given by the calling party rotary set after the called extension is in the off-hook position (both can speak together). Typically the dial pulses have a repetition rate of: Time Dial Pulse T(dp) = 100 ms +/- 20 ms The level of the dial pulses should not be less than V(dp) - 5V. The dial-pulse-width is preferably not less than T(w) 0.5ms.

The small spikes thereby generated are recognized by the control unit to control the recorder. Accordingly, no attachments or alterations are necessary to the telephone system. Previous telephone dictation systems require that square wave impulses (right angle) be provided to the control unit by a link unit.
