By taking several samples at a high-repetition rate for each display point, the sampling amplifier has increased sampling efficiency.

An input signal is applied to an input terminal 10 of a high-frequency sample- hold circuit 12, which includes a four-diode bridge circuit 14 and a sampling capacitor 16. Several sample strobe pulses, for example, three as indicated in the graph, are applied from pulse generator 18 to circuit 14 to provide a like number of samples of a single display point of the input signal. Each strobe pulse is produced by pulse generator 18 under the control of a corresponding trigger pulse, applied from terminal 20 through program generator 22 and staircase generator and variable delay 24. The program generator 22 in response to the trigger pulses produces a first gate pulse which is applied to a first gate device, for example, a field-effect transistor 26, to apply the samples from the output of the high-frequency sample-hold circuit 12 to sampling capacitor 28, which together with transistor 26 form a low-frequency sample-hold circuit 30. Suitable first and second amplifiers 32 and 34, both being DC amplifiers, are provided at the outputs or the high-frequency and low-frequency sample-hold circuits 12 and 30, respectively.
