Abstract

Garnet compositions having the general formula (Sm, Gd, Dy)(3) (Fe, Ga)(5) O(12) are used to provide stable bubble domains. Rare earth gallium garnet crystal substrates are used. The films have negative lambda(111) while lambda(100) is essentially 0. This minimizes complications from non-111 magnetostrictive effects. The preferred substrate is Sm(3)Ga(5)O(12). The films have stable bubbles when placed in tension in the (111) film plane or in compression along the <111> film axis.
