Tape Transport

This magnetic tape transport is particularly adapted to establish a constant capstan-to-tape and transducer-to-tape relationship.

A magnetic tape 20 is transported by a capstan 10 under uniform tension, provided by a driving-drag system connected to a pair of spools 11 and 12 holding the tape. Constant torque, both drag and drive, is provided to both of the reels by magnetic couplings 22 and 22A. A pair of one-way clutches 25 and 25A connected to the driving portion 24 and 24A of the magnetic couplings provide braking and uniform tension of the tape, when a driving motor is stopped. Another pair of one-way clutches 26 and 26A enable selective driving of the two reels by the single reversible motor 13. The motor also drives the capstan 10.
