Abstract

Described is an arrangement for aligning a hand held and propelled device (an optical scanner) as the device follows a plane curvilinear path imprinted on a suitable contrast surface (parallel bar code). The device has an optically flat surface for forming a reflective visual image of a portion of the path, the device being correctly aligned upon the reflective image being normal to the plane containing the path.
