Electronic Hot Zone

The apparatus required for setting the measure in a justification system has included a mechanical position sensor having a right-hand margin slider and a hot-zone contact. The desired accuracy has not been attained with the mechanical position sensor and different measures are often entered for a single setting.

This apparatus can be eliminated and accuracy improved through the use of an electronic-escapement counter. The operator can place the machine in a measure-entry mode, and through a tabbing and/or spacing operation, can position the carrier at the desired right-hand margin with the escapement being counted during the positioning operation. While operating in the measure-entry mode, when the carrier is positioned at the desired position, the keying of a carrier return will define the measure and the carrier will be returned to the left margin.
