Abstract

This vibration isolation mount combines reduction in size, as compared with conventional vibration isolation mounts, with the feature of adjusting the natural frequency and vibration damping characteristics. In this particular application, the vibration isolation mount consists of a stainless steel keeper and cover plate 1 threaded internally and externally. Vibration isolation is provided by washer 2 in recess 3, grommet 5, and washer 6 in recess 7. A threaded cover plate 8 abuts washer 6 and the assembly is fastened to the vibration fixture 10 by bolt 9. In the preferred embodiment, washer 2 and grommet 5 are made of the same material which provides viscous damping, while washer 6 is made of a different material which provides coulomb damping.

A specific material selected for washer 2 and grommet 5 is a polymeric composition known in the trade as LD-400 and manufactured by Lord Manufacturing Co. A specific material useful for washer 6 is an elastomeric rubber composition known in the trade as BTR (Broad Temperature Range) rubber also manufactured by Lord Manufacturing Co.

Frequency adjustment of the vibration isolation mount is obtained by rotating cover plate 1 or bolt 9, to vary the compression of washers 2, 6 and grommet 5.
