This parallel flow magnetic brush developer unit incorporates a magnet configuration, for optimum development of latent electrostatic images located on an electrostatic plate rotating in contact therewith.

The magnetic brush developer 11 includes a nonmagnetic conductive cylinder 13 which rotates in the direction of arrow 15, carrying magnetic developer material 17 into contact with latent electrostatic images on the cylindrical plate 19 which simultaneously rotates in the direction of arrow 21. The cylinder 13 rotates about a magnet configuration 23 which produces a plurality of magnetic fields for optimum image development. A normal magnetic field (i.e., flux lines perpendicular to surface of cylinder) is produced at the reservoir arc segment A where the developer 17 comes into contact with the cylinder 13. The normal field provides a blockage preventing developer flow over the back of the cylinder 13 in a direction opposite cylinder rotation. A tangential magnetic field is provided at the metering arc segment B, where the developer is doctored to a desired height above the cylinder 13 by doctoring rod 25. The tangential field provides a more densely packed mixture for metering purposes. The development arc segment C is that zone where the developer comes into contact with the latent image on cylindrical plate 19.
