Abstract

A half connector for mating with an identical half connector, to form electrical contact between arrays of tuning-fork type contacts carried by the half-connectors, comprises a body 46 housing four linear arrays of contacts 18 disposed at one end thereof. Between adjacent contacts are half-shield extensions 22 with parallel flanges 24 and 26, so that members 22 and 24 half shield one contact while members 22 and 26 half shield the adjacent contact. The arrays are effectively symmetrically located in the housing, but the arrays are staggered and the half shields are arranged so that the outer flanges face the Y axis and the inner flanges face the X axis, and the gaps between half shields will just accept that size of half shield.

Pins 28 and shoulders 34 locate the contacts 18 with this arrangement, two half connectors can be mated with interlocking contacts and it is found that cross talk is reduced.
