Acoustic Housing for Blowers

This blower package comprises a motor with two centrifugal impellers enclosed in a housing formed of a block of sound absorbing material. It is surrounded by a stiff outer shell and a rigid mounting plate from which the motor is suspended.

In Fig. 1, block 10 is divided by line 17 into two halves. Scroll-shaped chambers 30, 32 are formed in them for locating impellers 25, 26, and between these (Fig. 2) chamber 16 for the motor 23. Passages 40, 42 and 56 form built-in mufflers in block 10, thus air from surrounding space has access to chambers 30,
32. Air is expelled outwardly from the block through diffuser-like openings 52, 54 leading from scroll chambers 30, 32. Three openings in the bottom of the shell 18 encompass air inlets 36, 37 and 38 of block 10 and openings 22, 24 of mounting plate encompass diffuser-like air outlets 52, 54, respectively.

The sound absorbing material of block 10 is sufficient density to retain its form. A thin coating 34 is applied to the inner surfaces of this material to prevent it from eroding and to provide low friction to passing air. Material for the outer shell 18 and the mounting plate 20 is chosen to have good sound reflective characteristics.
