Abstract

The assembly, utilizing only a single electromagnet 21, permits a pair of pressures rolls 23 and 25 to be alternately selected for transporting document cards 27 by either one of two feed wheels 29 and 31, that are located on a common axis and that are turning at different speeds.

Double Pressure Roll Select Assembly

The assembly, utilizing only a single electromagnet 21, permits a pair of pressures rolls 23 and 25 to be alternately selected for transporting document cards 27 by either one of two feed wheels 29 and 31, that are located on a common axis and that are turning at different speeds.

Pressure roll 23 is rotatably carried on one arm of lever 33 that is pivotally mounted on a shaft 35 fixed on frame 37. Electromagnet 21 is effective on the other arm of level 33 and a return spring 39 is also effective on this lever arm. Lever 41 is pivotally mounted on shaft 43 also fixed to frame 37, and one arm of lever 41 is connected by a connecting rod 45 with the upper arm of lever 33. Pressure roll 25 is rotatably carried on the end of an arm 47 which is mounted on and freely swingable on shaft 35, and a return spring 49 yieldably holds arm 47 in its uppermost position. A leaf spring 51 is fixed with respect to the lower arm of lever 41 and overlies this arm, and also overlies the end of lever 47.

Pressure roll 23 normally, when electromagnet 21 is de-energized, runs in nipped relationship with respect to feed wheel 29 with spring 39 being active to forcefully apply pressure roll 23 to feed wheel 29, so as to feed card 27 forwardly at the speed of wheel 29. In order to cause feed wheel 31 to feed card 27 at the speed of wheel 31 instead of the speed of wheel 29, electromagnet 21 is energized swinging lever 33 to raise roll 23 with respect to...
