Solvent Assisted Pressure Effected Image Transfer

Microencapsulated solvent is pressure released to assist physical transfer of a donor coating, to create an image embedded in a receptor binder coating without use of chemical reactants.

A donor coating is applied to one surface of one sheet and a receptor coating is applied to an adjacent surface of another sheet. Encapsulated solvent is included in either coating. When a stylus or type member applies localized pressure to a nonadjacent surface of either sheet while the sheets are superposed, the capsules rupture, releasing solvent to solvate both the donor and adjacent receptor binder. The solvated donor physically transfers to the tacky receptor binder; whereupon solvent is removed by evaporation or absorption into the receptor sheet. The transfer image is bound securely in, as opposed to on, the receptor binder.

This form of image transfer was achieved using a receptor coating formulation comprising, by weight, 15 parts SOLVOX* denatured alcohol solvent, 10 parts polyvinylpyrrolidone binder and 10 parts encapsulated AROCHLOR** 1242 solvent. Upon rupture of the capsules, the AROCHLOR solvent softened an adjacent donor sheet of IMPACT*** paper to assist physical transfer of the carbon-like donor coating from the donor to the receptor sheet. * Trademark of U.
