Measurement Device

This measurement device permits direct measurement of workpiece dimensions with a Cadillac gauge.

The device consists of a dial indicator and sensing finger which are mounted to a reversing block via an adaptor. The adaptor permits positioning of the sensing finger so that it is precisely in the plane of the lower surface of the reversing block.

To check a measurement position on the workpiece, the sensing finger is first zeroed to the lower surface of the reversing block by sliding the reversing block over the flat granite surface and adjusting the adaptor until the indicator dial is zeroed. The reversing block is then slipped into the Cadillac gauge between a pair of rings, which span the measurements on the workpiece which are to be checked. After positioning the Cadillac gauge adjacent the workpiece, its column is moved vertically according to the desired specifications for the work-piece position to be checked. By contacting the finger to this position, discrepancies can be detected for positions within the range of movement of the Cadillac gauge. For positions outside this range, the reversing block must be slipped between a different pair of rings.
