Abstract

Shown is a torch assembly for sealing off a diffusion capsule 1 mounted on a vacuum chuck 2. The assembly includes a rotary gas feed-through 3 connected to the center of one side of a disc-shaped rotatable manifold head 4. A torch extension 5 with torch tip 6 is connected on the opposite side of manifold head 4 at its outer diameter. The manifold head 4 is mounted to a pivot arm 7, by a pair of preloaded angular contact bearings, not shown, to eliminate lateral run-out. Rigid tubing 8, extending from a gas torch mixer 9 which is fixed to the pivot arm 7, is connected to the rotary gas feed-through inlet 3 to prevent the rotary feed-through inlet 3 from rotating.
