This power supply may be used in a monolithic memory to generate a tightly regulated voltage at high-current demand using highly varying power supplies and no reference voltage other than ground. Z is a RC network for feedback stability. ZD2 is a zener diode for voltage translation.

This design features common mode compensation such that delta VA ~ delta VB no matter how V1 changes.

For VC to be constant, collector current of T2 has to change by delta V1 over R6 and collector current of T1 has to change by ~ delta VA over R7 delta VI over delta R6 where RA is the dynamic resistance of ZD1, and RA <<R2.

The diagrammed configuration of ZD1 and R1 through R5 and choice of their values to satisfying (1) makes perfect compensation possible.

Any variations of V2 can be compensated by making R6 = 2R7.
