Chaff Relief for Vibratory Feed Bowls

A turn feature is provided in a vibratory feed bowl to remove chaff from the track of the bowl. At the same time, a significant increase occurs in the efficiency of turning semiconductor chips.

In segment 1 shown of vibratory feed bowl 2 chaff is removed at opening 3. Chip 4 having pads 5 moves in the direction of arrow 6 in rib 7. If the chip is misaligned as at 4A, it rides along a shoulder 8 until contact is made at abutment Y. The corner edge of the chip acts as an axis of rotation about which the chip turns 90 degrees as at 4B. To aid in orienting the chip, a portion of segment 1 is milled at 10 so as to provide a slope outwardly at 11 and inwardly at 12.

The reoriented chip at 4C is aligned on rib 7.

To assure the removal of chaff from the entire track of the feed bowl, three to five such chaff reliefs are provided along the track surface. Chips misoriented 90 degrees, 180 degrees and 270 degrees are reoriented.
