The improved card insertion capability of the drum throat of the storage feeder achieves interference-free card return, with a maximum possible range of axial misalignment between any card drum storage pocket and the processor feed.

The drum 10 incorporates a wedge-shaped card slot or pocket 12 (in place of the conventional rectangular configuration), and reshapes the pocket face 14 in the drum 10 so that the outside, or drum peripheral edge 16 extends beyond the drum hub edge 18 by a small amount, designated in Fig. 2 by distance X. Thus, the returning card 20 enters the widest part of the drum storage slot 12 first, and is literally "funnelled" into the pocket.

Fig. 1 of the illustration shows the card relationship to the wedge-shaped storage slots. Fig. 2 shows the outer, leading edge of the drum guiding a card into a slot.
