Abstract

An aligning and feed mechanism for a semiautomatic document feed is illustrated in Figs. 1 and 2. Feed belt 10 urges the sheet of paper 14 constituting the original document to be copied onto platen 12. Original document 14 is placed on document tray 16 and positioned with its leading edge against stop fingers 18. Stop fingers 18 extend through document tray 16 and between feed belts 10. Upon the initiation of a feed signal, solenoid 20 is energized pulling link 22 to the right and pulling stop and aligning fingers 18 downward into a retracted position. When stop fingers 18 are pulled downward into the retracted position, pusher spring 24 engages pinch bars 26 and urges them upward through slots 28 and document tray 16.

Document Feed

This traps document 14 between belts 10 and pinch bars 26 thus effectively engages the document with belts 10 for feeding to platen
12. Upon relaxation of solenoid 20 pinch bars 26 drop downward, and stop and aligning fingers 18 extend upward to align and stop the next document placed on document tray 16.
