Abstract

A close-fitting paper guide, located immediately upstream of the transfer corona in a copier, maintains the trailing edge of copy closely adjacent to the copy drum. An adjustable paper entrance guide holes a copy on the photoconductor drum until the entire imaged area has entered the transfer corona region, preventing copies from dropping away from the photoconductor drum in the transfer corona region when the trailing edge cleared the turn drum feed roller.

Paper Entrance Guide

A close-fitting paper guide, located immediately upstream of the transfer corona in a copier, maintains the trailing edge of copy closely adjacent to the copy drum. An adjustable paper entrance guide holes a copy on the photoconductor drum until the entire imaged area has entered the transfer corona region, preventing copies from dropping away from the photoconductor drum in the transfer corona region when the trailing edge cleared the turn drum feed roller.

Point 10 represents the normal point of tangency of a piece of paper being fed onto the photoconductor drum. Point 11 represents the point of tangency of the paper when the trailing edge has cleared the turn drum feed roller without the entrance guide. The paper entrance guide 12 extends across the paper path 13 and is adjusted perpendicular to the transfer plate 14 by a jack screw on either side. Compression springs, which are concentric to these screws, hold the guide in position such that the edge is approximately six paper thicknesses from the photoconductor drum surface. With this adjustment, the paper-to-drum tangency point is maintained at point 15 after the trailing edge has cleared the drum turn.
