Abstract

A picker-drive mechanism for transporting multipart documents includes a pair of high friction drive belts 10, each trained over a pulley 11 mounted about the fixed axis 12 of shaft 13 and a pulley 14 mounted about the moveable axis 15 of shaft 16. Shaft 13 and shaft 16 are carried by a plate 17. Fixed axis 12 serves as the drive axis while the frame supporting shafts 13 and 16 pivots about shaft 13, to move shaft 16 between raised and lowered positions. In the raised or nonactuated position, the belt is out of contact with the underlying document stack 18 with upward travel induced by spring 20 and limited by an upstop 19 (Fig. 1) which engages plate 17. Upon request, magnet 21 is energized pivoting the belts 10 downwardly and into contact with the top document or form set of deck 18.

Upon request, magnet 21 is energized pivoting the belts 10 downwardly and into contact with the top document or form set of deck 18. Particularly when feeding form sets bound at the leading edge, belts 10 clamp the upper form set against the second set giving stability to the set and allowing such multiple part form to be fed into the device feed rolls, not shown. Spring loaded follower rolls 22 supply a normal force along radial lines from the associated drive pulleys 11, to provide a continuous feed from the hopper through the first set of drive rolls and cause the picker to become a part of the drive transport system.
