Chip Bank

The chip bank illustrated is utilized for precise, automatic, high-speed chip handling.

The chip bank 10 includes a cover 11 having openings 12 extending laterally and longitudinally of the cover to expose chip cages 13, which are positioned in a main structural support member 14. As illustrated in Fig. 3, the cover includes inturned leg portions 11A and 11B which mate with recesses 14A, 14B, respectively, to prevent vertical movement of the cover relative to the support. The cover includes a latch member 15 having a tang 16 which fits in an aperture 17 in the support 14 for locking the cover, to prevent accidental longitudinal motion or displacement of the cover 11 relative to the support 14.

The cage 13 has a plurality of chip receiving apertures 13A therein and is fitable by a lug 18 into a recess 19 in the support 14, so as to accurately locate the cages in the apertures 12 in the cover 11. To permit proper addressing of individual chips located in the apertures 13A, the support 14 includes a plurality of passages 20 which extend through the support for registration with the apertures 13A of the cage.
