Abstract

Stepping motors 10 and 12 may be used to drive an X-Y-Theta table solely through rotational motion. Shaft 14 operatively connects plate 16 and stepping motor 10 for rotation of plate 16. Stepping motor 10 is mounted to base 18. In a similar manner, stepping motor 12 is mounted on plate 16 with shaft 20 operatively engaging gear 22 for rotation of it. Gear 24 is rotatedly mounted on plate 16 by shaft 26 and meshes with gear 22. Pin 28 on gear 24 engages X-Y-Theta table 30.

Rotation imparted by stepping motors 10 and 12 on plate 16 and gear 22, respectively, allows pin 28 to be moved to any desired point within the range of the mechanism. For angular (Theta) alignment, a third stepping motor, not shown, may be utilized to rotate X-Y-Theta table 30 about pin 28.
