Overfeed Control For Vibratory Feed Bowls

A step-down control is included in a vibratory feed bowl to regulate the overflow of semiconductor chips. As the chips overflow, they are moved are moved in a piggy back manner to be dropped down into the center of the bowl.

In the usual vibratory feed bowl 1, there are provided a flip feature 2 and plural turn features 3. After the last turn feature, an orient check 4 is provided which is followed by a step down feature 5. This step is controlled to be a whole number of chips from pickup point 6 of end track 7.

Following step down feature 5, a second orient check 8 controls the drop-off of the overflow chips. When the track is full of chips, additional chips such as 9, 10 flow over the top of the chips, such as 11. 12, in end track 7. At orient point 8, these chips fall back into the center of bowl 1. As the chips are picked from the bowl at point 6, the line of chips advances leaving a space that may be whole chip gaps permitting other chips to fill in these gaps.
