By utilizing the cutting area of a substrate on which a chip is formed, a simple chip identification method is achieved.

Normally, in constructing chips for use of magnetic bubble domains, permalloy patterns are deposited on a garnet platelet by use of a mask made by a step and repeat operation. The chips are then cut out.

By utilizing the cutting area for a raster and dot counter as shown in Fig. 1, a direct counting operating may be formed as illustrated in Fig. 2 by a step and repeat (overlapping) operation, as illustrated in Fig. 3.
