Alignment of Disc Drive

A disc drive spindle is maintained at the plane of a disc mounted thereon to facilitate track-to-track high-density spiral recording.

In operation, a disc 4 is positioned on a rotatable table 6 and centered during rotation by a spindle 1. Spindle 1 is slidable on spindle in 2 and biased in an upward direction by a spring 3. Disc 4 is then axially aligned by a cap 5, which is brought down against disc 4. At the same time, pin 8 carried by cap frame 7 is inserted into the opening in spindle 1. Alignment is now maintained at the plane of disc 4, insuring uniformity of spiral recording.
