Abstract

A charge corona 10, for applying initial charge to the surface of photocopy drum 11, is provided with edge shields 12 to limit charging of the peripheral edges of an image area 13. Shields 12 are tapered along the rum periphery, such that initial charge reduces from a maximum in the image area through a lower level approximating the charge level of white copy background, to zero charge at the extreme edges 14 of the photoconductor. This arrangement prevents development of edge shadows and prevents development outside of image area 13.
