Self Adjusting Right Hand Paper Guide

This apparatus pertains to mechanism for aligning copy paper against a reference edge in a paper bin.

When the operator desires to replenish the sheet paper supply, bin 1 is withdrawn from the copying machine. As the bin is withdrawn, friction pad 2 comes in contact with a strip of friction material 3 which is fastened to the base of the machine. The frictional passing of pad 2 over material 3 causes arm 4, which is secured to pad 4, to pivot about point 5. As arm 4 pivots, it causes right-hand edge guide 6, which is riding on guide shaft 7, to move in the direction in which bin 1 is being withdrawn it being noted that edge guide 4 moves more rapidly than the bin as it is being withdrawn. This is attributed to the difference in length of the portion of arm 4 between pad 2 and pivot 5, and the portion between pivot 5 end the connection with guide 6-=the former portion being shorter in length. As guide 6 moves toward the front of bin I, pins, not shown, which protrude out of the bottom of edge guide 6, move into locking springs 8 causing guide 6 to be locked in that position.

The paper supply is now inserted onto paper shell 14 of the bin, and bin 1 pushed back into the machine. As the bin is pushed back, the shape of pad 2 allows it to rock and, therefore, slide over material 3 without affecting edge guide
4. Edge guide 6 does not move until bin 1 is almost
