Abstract

A switch is provided on the maintenance panel to signal entry to a "soft stop" routine, upon the occurrence of-a machine check. In soft stop mode, a branch to a manual loop is made very early in the machine check microcode to enable a display function for the benefit of a troubleshooter. Among others, locations in the CPU/IO local stores, IO buffer, and main storage can be displayed, after which the troubleshooter can push the start button to continue with the machine check-trap sequence.
