Copier Incorporating Document Detection System

An office copier incorporates a document detection system to detect the presence of an unauthorized original document presented thereto for copying.

Office copier 11 images an original document 13 onto photoconductive drum 15 for reproducing copies thereof. A document detection system including transmitter 17, receiver 19, and control unit 21 is incorporated within the office copier 11. Transmitter 17 beams electromagnetic radiation toward document 13. If document 13 is printed with normal printing inks, the radiation continues along path 23. If document 13 is printed with energy reflective inks, the radiation beam is deflected from the document along path 25 to receiver 19. Receiver 19 provides a signal to control unit 21 which turns off copier 11, necessitating resetting thereof by one having access to a key thereto.

Documents containing secure intelligence are therefore printed with reflective inks to prevent copying thereof.
