This is a vibration isolated support. A dual-damping factor is provided by varying the volume of cushioning fluid in the support.

The support, which may be one of a number of such supports for a work- piece is shown. When the solenoid valve 10 and damping control valve 12 are both open, the damping factor is inversely proportional to the sum of the fluid volumes V1 and V2. This is desirable during operations when a high degree of vibration isolation is desired. However, during time intervals when workpieces are transferred to or from the support, such a low-damping factor requires an excessive time to reach a quiescent state. Closing solenoid valve 10 reduces the damping volume to V1, thereby providing high degree of stiffness during load, unload and transfer operations. The addition of filler material 14 as shown, reduces the volume of V1 assuring a high degree of stiffness, as well as a large difference between V1 and the sum of V1 and V2. The rapid action of solenoid valve 10 permits almost instantaneous change from one of the two damping factors to the other.
