A wrinkle bar extending the length of a platen is incorporated into an unattended printer to prevent treeing during paper feeding.

As shown in Fig. 1, platen 6 is spaced from rollers 5 and 9 during insertion of paper 1 between platen 6 and guide 8. At this time, wrinkle bar 2, carried by arm 3 and pivotable about rod 7, is resting against cover 4. With paper 1 having been inserted, platen 6 and rollers 5 and 9 are brought into engagement with paper 1 as shown in Fig. 2. Also, wrinkle bar 2 forces paper 1 into engagement with platen 6, smoothing paper 1 during feeding.
