Document Feeding Device

This semiautomatic document feeding device incorporates feeding brushes, which align the document prior to the document being forwarded to a processing station.

Document 11 is manually inserted in the direction of arrow 13 over plate 15 until contacted by feed brushes 17 and 19.

Cam shaft 21 is rotated by motor 23, causing cams 25 and 27 having their high points 180 degrees apart to rotate. Cam 25 drives follower 29 in a vertical direction, square shaft 31 insuring such vertical movement. In a similar manner, cam 27 drives follower 33 vertically. Vertical movement of the followers 29 and 33 produce corresponding vertical motion of the brushes 17 and 19.

The angle of contact between brushes 17 and 19 and plate 15 is 60 degrees. When the brushes are in their up position, they just clear document 11. As each brush is pushed down on document 11, the document is moved in the direction of arrows 41 and 43.

Document 11 travels in the direction of arrow 41 until its edge contacts aligning gate 45. Document 11 travels in the direction of arrow 43 until its edge contacts entry gate 47. When the edge of document 11 contacts aligning gate 45, the aligning gate rotates about pivot 49 thereby pushing on switch lever 51 and actuating switch 53. Switch 53 actuates solenoid 55 which pulls arm 57 of entry gate 47. When entry gate 47 moves below plate 15, document 11 is pushed by brush 19 until the document is gripped by a downstream conveyor, not shown.
