Abstract

Substituted hexaferrite compositions can support micron and submicron bubble domains, which permits realization of high-bit densities. However, it is difficult to achieve epitaxial hexaferrite films which have good lattice match to the substrates. Certain substrates are described here for achieving basal plane epitaxy with hexaferrites.

Substituted hexaferrite compositions can support micron and submicron bubble domains, which permits realization of high-bit densities. However, it is difficult to achieve epitaxial hexaferrite films which have good lattice match to the substrates. Certain substrates are described here for achieving basal plane epitaxy with hexaferrites.

Suitable substrates for BaFe(8)Ga(4)O(12) include BaGa(12)O(19), BaFe(6)Ga(6)O(19), KFe(11)O(17), and RbFe(11)O(17). For epitaxial growth of BaFe(8.5)Al(3.5)O(12), BaGa(12)O(19) substrates are particularly useful.
