By regulating and controlling the 30 rectified line voltage from its maximum to twice the maximum value, the necessity of overdesigning the power supply to account for PLD (Power Line Disturbance) conditions can be totally eliminated, thereby increasing the unit output capacity and efficiency.

In the figure, Vo can be controlled anywhere between E and E + kE by changing the firing angles of silicon-control rectifiers SCR1, SCR2 and SCR3, where: E = maximum 30 rectified line voltage k = any number between 0 to 1.
