Abstract

Discretely clustered large-scale Integrated light-emitting modules provide programmable display intelligence indications on or adjacent to associated selection keys. Each module comprises an integrated circuit configuration of logical switching and light-emitting semiconductors, for producing variable length and form display indications associated with instantaneous functions of respective keys. The indications are changeable dynamically by internal programming as the keys are operated.

Programmable Message Display at Individual Keys of am Interactive Terminal or Control Panel Unit

The modules may be individually sized to provide as many discrete alphanumeric character indications as are required to display a "longest" message (e.g. the term "accessories" as illustrated). Indications are produced only by assemblies associated with "active" keys.

Control and storage logic integral with the indicating assemblies, allows for storage and translation of program generated signals incidental to indication. Individual assemblies and/or the aggregate indication/ selection keying assembly may be configured as plug-in modules, to allow customized terminals to be assembled from a common inventory base. The modules in such an inventory would simply be panels of various lengths and widths.
