Low Force Paper Sensing Switch

A low-force paper sensing switch incorporates a pivotable rod which actuates a Hall sensor device, thereby eliminating contacts inherent in mechanical switches.

A magnetically soft ferromagnetic pin 1 is pinned for rotation about axis 3, and is placed in the centered slot 5 of a rectangular plastiform magnet 7. When force F is applied in the direction of arrow 9, pin 1 rotates through an angle A. Hall sensor 11 located a fixed distance from the pin surface 13 senses an "on" flux at angle A=0. Once force F is applied moving the pin through angle A, an off flux exists at Hall sensor 11. Pin 1 tends to rest at angle A=0, due to the force on the pin exerted by magnet 7.
