Disk File

This disk file provides selectively a plurality of magnetic disks 10 to a read/write assembly 12.

The disks 10 are each contained in a protective envelope 14 and are disposed in radial slots 16 of a drum 18. The disks 10, in their envelopes 14, are moved in and out of drum 18 by a selector 20, and the proper disk for such movement is brought to proper position by rotating drum 18 using drum drive 22. Selector 20 is in the form of a reciprocable yoke having envelope contacting arms 24 and 26. Selector 20 is reciprocated by a lever 28, which is moved in one direction or the other by a selector drive motor 30. One-half revolution of motor 30 causes a disk 10 and its envelope 14 to be moved into read/write head 12, and the next half revolution of motor 30 causes the disk to be returned to its radial slot 16 in drum 18.

Drum 18 is mounted on wheels 32 which run in a circular track 34 on the bottom of drum 18. The center of drum 18 is thus vacant to provide a space for arm 24.
