Gas Panel Display Sealing and Separation Procedure

In the manufacture of gas or liquid display panels, it is desirable that electrode substrate and front glass viewing plate be separated uniformly over the surface area.

A uniform separation gap is accomplished by incorporating a uniform mechanical standoff support, in or about the edge sealing glass area. This is accomplished by providing a glass coated wire having a glass composition compatible with the panel glass and edge sealing glass composition, inserting the glass coated wire about the periphery and between the display panels, and heating the edge sealing glass and the glass coated standoff wire to a temperature, whereby the edge sealing glass and glass about the wire diffuse to form a uniform seal and wire support panel separation.
