Abstract

A helical tape system includes two separate tape loops 10 and 12 that are transported about a mandrel 13, relative to a single-rotating head assembly 14 in intersecting helical paths. Each tape loop is wrapped 180 degrees with stepping motors 16 and 18, respectively, for track-to-track accessing. Gimbal and tension rollers 20 are provided in the guidance path of the tapes.
