Incrementer Mechanism

The mechanism incrementally drives a driven shaft 10 in one direction or the other, depending on which of two control magnets 12 and 14 is energized.

The drive element of the mechanism is a shaft 16 which has an eccentric 18 fixed thereto. Eccentric 18 fits within a slot 20 formed in a wobble lever 22 that has a reciprocable connection with respect to the shaft 10, formed by a slider 24 rotatable on shaft 10 and disposed in a slot 26 formed in lever 22. A slotted wheel 28 is fixed on shaft 10, and a spring loaded roller 30 partially enters each of the slots 28A of the wheel 28 for holding wheel 28 and shaft 10 in incremented positions. Lever 22 has pins 32 and 34 fixed thereto, which are adapted to enter the slots 28A of wheel 28; but, in the illustrated vertical position of lever 22, neither of pins 32 and 34 enters the slots 28A when the shaft 16 rotates, since shaft 16 is located substantially at the center of the slot 20 in the illustrated position of lever 22. This, therefore, constitutes a neutral condition in which driven shaft 10 is not driven even though shaft 16 rotates, with eccentric 18 moving within slot 20 and oscillating the lever 22.

A lever 36 is pivotably mounted at 38 and has a pin and slot connection with the lower end of lever 22. A slot 40 is provided in the end of lever 36, and a spring mounted roller 42 is adapted to enter slot 40 and yieldably hold lever 36 in its illustrated neutral position.
