Mark Up Mail System

The system as depicted schematically herein operates as follows:

Envelopes for which there is to be a change of address are inserted into the machine input hopper 2. The envelopes are fed in singular fashion by the feed 3, and presented for address viewing via the mail transport 4 to an operator. The operator keys the envelope recipient's name and former address into the system, via keyboard 5. The keying operation signals the computer to search for the new address. When the name and new address is found, it is printed onto a new label by printer 6, and the label is then affixed onto the mail piece by label applicator 7 so as to obliterate the original name and old address. The envelope is then transported to the output stacker 8 for redistribution in the normal manner.
