Malfunction Inhibitor

A spring biased inhibitor is provided on a loader arm to prevent apparatus and media damage and apparatus malfunction.

A clutch 1 having an offset pin 2 is rotated during a combined loading and ejecting cycle. During this cycle, the bottom card in a stack of record cards 16 is to be repositioned in a proper recording position as at 20, and the card previously at 20 is to be repositioned or ejected to position 15. Loader stop 7 will pick the bottom card in stack 16 and ejector stop 12 will pick card 20. During rotation of clutch 1, pin 2 moving in slot 5 will cause loader arm 3 to rotate about pivot 18, causing transport 9 to move along the path indicated by arrows 19. Loader arm 3 is connected to transport 9 through pin 17 in transport arm 14.

As shown, card 10 has not been positioned sufficiently to the right (in position
20) by stop 12 on ejector 11, which is connected to transport 9 by pins 13. This could have resulted from stop 12 slipping under media 10 during the ejecting and loading cycle. If at this time a "card in place" signal is not received and stop 7 is permitted to pick another card, the possibility exists that a card will be damaged and/or a malfunction will occur. With card 10 not in position 20, stop 12 on ejector 11 is frictionally acting against card 10. Transport 9 is thus prevented from returning completely to the left and contacting switch 8.
