Abstract

It has been found to be desirable to provide a transparent mechanism for use with an autocall feature of switched teleprocessing (TP) networks. The OPERATING SYSTEM has a logical interface called CLOSE TYPE=T. Using this interface signal to the TP access method that temporary suspension of TP activity is planned by the program, the Teleprocessing Access Method (TPAM) can reasonably disconnect a switched connection. This disconnect action on the part of the TPAM is not signalled in any way to the using program. When the program resumes activity with the previously connected terminal, the program issues OPEN. This signals TPAM that resumption of activity is intended. TPAM dials the remote terminal and resumes physical connection.

Temporary Physical Disconnect of a Terminal While Maintaining a Logical Connection

For nonswitched lines, the TPAM can remove the terminal from the polling list upon encountering CLOSE TYPE=T and reinstate the terminal on a polling list upon encountering OPEN.
